The NYIG Open is an annual Go tournament sponsored by the New York Institute of Go since 2017. This year's special edition is joined by two esteemed professional players from China, who will teach and interact with our Go fans. Don't burn yourself out with the tournament because you will not want to miss the night with the pros. After a Go lecture and pizza, you get to ask your own questions during "Ask the Pros" with Gu Zihao, Wang Xiangyun, Stephanie Yin, and Ryan Li.

The first 10 to register for "Night with the Pros" will receive a mystery gift. Registering for both the tournament and "Night with the Pros" will receive a $10 voucher for the March monthly tournament.

Gu Zihao 9P will take the audience through Go’s cutting edge, revealing both the technical and psychological battles in one of the most memorable games during his journey to champion. All levels are welcome. Translation by Ryan Li 1P.

Wondering how they improved at early levels? Got a burning question to ask the pros? Gu Zihao 9P, Wang Xiangyun 3P, and Stephanie Yin 1P are here to answer them. Hosted and translated by Ryan Li 1P.
Social: 8:10 – 10:00 PM
A time to chill for everyone. Though with a plethora of food, drinks, and Go boards, nothing will stop you from more Go. Feel free to chat with the pros!
New York Institute of Go (255-05 Northern Blvd, 2FL, Little Neck, NY 11362)
Format: 4 rounds, AGA rated, with AGA rules, and Swiss categorizing and rank pairings.
Handicaps: The open division (5D and up) will have no handicap, while other divisions will play with handicap-1 (e.g. a 1 kyu player will give a 4 kyu player 2 stone handicap).
Time settings: 25 minutes with 5 times 20-second byoyomi. Clocks are started 5 minutes after the round starts. If a player does not arrive 10 minutes after that, they will forfeit the round.
Tentative Divisions: The rank divider (Open division exempt) is subject to change depending on the number of participants.
Open Division: 5D and above
Division 1: 1D to 4D
Division 2: 10K to 1K
Division 3: 25K to 11K
Anti-sandbagging: If any form of sandbagging is discovered by the players or the TD, the TD has the right to disqualify a player’s current games and reallocate that player to the division that fits their actual rank.
Late arrivals: If a player does not arrive in time for the first round and does not notify the TD that they wish to participate, they will not be included in further rounds.
Cash prizes are awarded to the top players in each division.
Getting to NYIG
LIRR: We are close to the Little Neck Station, from which major connections are within 30-minute rides, including Penn Station, Woodside, and Flushing.
Bus: Take Q12 to Northern Blvd or Morgan Street if you live nearby.
Drive: Street parking is convenient (meters on the street & free parking off the street).
