Course Description

The NYIG adult class is a designated Go course for students to enjoy studying Go. This course emphasizes the thinking process throughout the opening, middle game, and end game stages of Go, thus achieving the dual purposes of improvement and motivation. Classes are taught by professional-level instructors and meet 3 times a month on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Please note the updated class time.

Levels: from new players to 3D

Time: 10:00 to 12:30, every Saturday except the first Saturday of each month (Monthly Tournament).

Venue: New York Institute of Go, 255-05 Northern Blvd, Little Neck, NY.


Tuition: $450 for a 6-class session + $20 material fee (waved for ongoing students). Each class is 2.5 hours. Students may enter the current session at any time. One make-up class is available in proceeding each 6-class session. 

For new students: One FREE Trial Class is available upon registering for a 6-class session after the trial class (and the $40 deposit will be refunded). 


Course Outline & Plan

Students are divided into 2 groups based on level:

Group A: Beginner and double-digit kyu players

Group B: Single-digit kyu and low dan players

Schedule (Saturday)

10:00 - 10:30

Lecture for all students on playing strategies and reading tactics.

10:30 - 11:30

Lecture for Group A: Go rules, go etiquette, go terminologies, basic skills. Paired practice Group B.

11:30 - 12:30

Paired practice for Group A. Group B: Advanced playing skills which include but are not limited to opening, joseki, tesuji, and end game.
