New York Youth Open

Tournament Rules:
Where: New York Institute of Go: 255-05 Northern Blvd. 2F, Little Neck, NY 11362
Rule Set: AGA, Swiss-style, 19 x 19 board
Time Limit: Open sections: 30 minutes main time and 3 periods of 20 second Byo-yomi
                    Kyu sections: 30 minute absolute time
Komi (Open sections): All games are even, 7.5 points komi
Handicaps (Kyu sections): AGA rules: 9 stones handicap maximum, regardless of further rank difference. 1 rank difference = 1 stone, 2 ranks difference = 2 stones, … and so forth.

Brackets: will be divided by rank, all players must play all rounds.

  • Open section: above 3 dan

  • Open section: 2 dan - 7 kyu

  • Kyu section: 8 kyu -17 kyu

  • Kyu section: 18 kyu - 26 kyu (player who has no rank will be registered as 26 kyu)

Prizes: trophies will be awarded in each bracket.  

  • 1st to 3rd place in elementary or younger group

  • 1st to 3rd place in middle/high school group

(all groups will compete together) 
Cash prize and trophies will be awarded to Open sections. Players in Kyu brackets can be promoted to a higher rank, followed by the Ranking System. 

Additional: Matches will begin promptly. You will forfeit your match if you are more than 15 minutes late. Carry-on wins from ranking competition can not be used in this tournament. Winners will be determined by best records at the end of the event. Tiebreakers will be determined by Sum of Opponent’s Scores (SOS) and further by Sum of Defeated Opponent’s Scores (SODOS).
