NYGA Grand Finals
The NYGA Grand Finals is a season-ending championship featuring the top eight players of the NYGA Monthly Tournaments (NMT). This invitational tournament has a single-elimination format, played by the top eight players with the highest NMT rankings at the end of the season. The grand prize for the champion is $500+, subjected to increase from sponsorships and donations. The Grand Finals will take place on the 3rd Saturday of December. This annual event will receive live broadcasting and professional commentary.
NYGA Monthly Tournament (NMT)
Each monthly tournament is a 4-round, AGA rated Go tournament that takes place on the first Saturday of every month. Players compete in divisions based on their current AGA ratings, winning cash prizes and accumulating NMT points used to qualify for the Grand Final. See the NMT details page for the dates and rules.
NMT Points System
Points are awarded to players exclusively based on their placement in the open division of each monthly tournament. The champion receives 20 points, the runner-up finisher 16 points, with 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2 points for positions 3 through 8. If the open division has fewer than 8 players, players from the next division will qualify for top 8, but receive half the points for their respective positions.
(for example, if there are 6 players in open division, the 1st to 6th place players receive 20, 16, 12, 10, 8, 6 points, while the top two players from 1d-4d division receive half the points of 7th and 8th place, which are 2 points and 1 point respectively)
At the start of each season, all players reset to 0 points.
